We ought to put together an amazing guide! :X

Like, it'd include explanations on what godmodding means, or character control, how to keep yourself in check with the length of your posts, etc, etc, etc... As in, the usual 'no-no's, tips and tricks, and such!

More importantly, some list of cliches would be cool. ><

For a couple of examples...

Smoker-syndrome - Despite being a marine, your marine doesn't always have to be one of the few and selected who wish to follow their own way of justice, disregarding the rules excessively, sometimes going even as far as siding with the pirates for what he believes is right. There are bad guy marines as much as there are good guys. Even if you don't want to be a villain, try to have something special about it.

"NO! DADDY! NOOOO!": "One day, the marines arrived on Little Timmy's home island and killed his parents for them doing something which they shouldn't have. While Little Timmys father was dying, Timmy promised to take down the entire marines for what they had done, thus becoming a pirate!" ... And thus, Little Timmy joined the immense club of such unfortunate little oprhans, and found thousands of others who were just like him! ><

Black is always in: No matter how badass it makes you look, you don't have to dress yourself in black like a vampire. Someone may throw a wild guess that your characters black leather jacket, black cloak, black bandanna, black hair, black eyes, black shoes, and black straight pants may also go together with the way your character just happens to be a quiet, isolated psychopath who's parents - *DUN DUN* - just happened to be killed by the - *DUN DUN DUN* - marines...!

BTW: Those clichés are really, really cliché...

Godmoding: Giving your character such strong features he seems to be invincible. Beating grown-ups as a 2-year old also will be put under this term. However this are just some examples, there are a few other ways in which your character will be unapproved due to godmoding. Invincible or immortal is forbidden.

Character control: Not much too tell about this one. There aren't really rules for this as long as you are aware of the fact that you are your character, not just playing him.
I myself prefer to make something like a story instead of indicating someone saying something.
Example:
Hatori: I don't know. ----> will be something like: Hatori shrugged. "I don't know"

Yeah, I think there are plenties of ways of godmodding. It doesn't always mean that you just say: 'Jolt-Jack jumps out of the shadows in the speed of light, slashes Aokiji's head off, grunts and places his seastone sword of the Legendary Dragon's back to it's platinum hilt, before quietly saying: "Dont' wake me up unless someone worthy of fight me is here... Althought there are none."'

I mean, another way is to put someone in a check-mate position. Like that your guy just jumps on him, ties his arms behind his back, places his knife on his throat ready to slit it, while also pointing his head with a gun... All in one post. It's sorta cheap. The other guy ought to have a chance to dodge it. Direct hits are always rather lame. :X

And yeah, other way which character control can piss people off in is the way that other people have their own ways they may wish their charas to react to things. It's unlike that they'd intend to have their chara say 'OMG! THAT POSE! YOU HAVE MASTERED THE BILLION BLADES ATTACK?! NOOOOO I AM DOOMED!'. And if one makes someones elses chara say that, it'll usually just piss the other guy off. ><

Fighting another person is kinda difficult due to having to think of them as well. It's not really about who's stronger and who can make a more effective idea for an attack, but more of who's willing to lose. If neither one wants to get hit or take the bullet to end it at some rate, it's just gonna end up with constant attack-and-dodge-action, which goes absolutely nowhere. (I've seen some of those... And it's rather lame. :p) Just respect it if someone pulls off a cool move. Like, if they do am immense fifteen-post plan as they decide to toss out their daddy dear's skull filled with gunpowder with tears in their eyes (lol?!), you shouldn't just do another "Timmy blocks the skull with swift hand move, laughing before charging forth again.". ><

Posts in general: I think it's pretty lame if one RP-er in a RP makes about 18 posts in a row, if he even does something, with texts like "Timmy snores, and continues sleeping." Or something like that.

If you've just developed a character for use as a Navigator in some backwater crew which hasn't really launched itself into the world yet and only has a Captain and a Swordsman, (The two most critical positions) try to think just how much strength it would be relevant for that character to have. I like to think that, as a rule, Logia abilities should be reserved for the complete upper percentile of Pirates and Marines. Having three Logia, say, in a brand-new pirate group doesn't really make a great deal of sense. Hell, you might want to mix it up by having some characters that don't have DFs at all!

They're supposed to be rare, damnit!
